CLARISSA CHUN
Head Coach
Clarissa Chun was named the inaugural head coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes women’s wrestling program on Nov. 18, 2021, and has led the team to back-to-back NCWWC national titles. Befpre arriving at Iowa, she served as an assistant coach for the USA Wrestling Women’s National Team from 2017 to 2021, where she helped guide U.S. women to multiple world- and Olympic-medal performances.
As an athlete, Chun boasts an exceptional résumé. She is a two-time Olympian—finishing fifth in Beijing (2008) and earning a bronze medal in London (2012). In 2008, she captured the World Championship at 48 kg.
At Iowa, she has built a program marked by dominating dual-meet records, national championships, and student-athlete success in only its first two seasons.
Chun brings a coaching philosophy rooted in empowerment, excellence, and community—drawing from her international-competition experience and dedication to growing the sport of women’s wrestling.
GARY MAYABB
Associate Head Coach
Gary Mayabb was named associate head coach of the Iowa women’s wrestling program in May 2022.
Mayabb brings more than three decades of wrestling experience—including leadership with USA Wrestling where he managed Greco-Roman programs from 2017-22, and roles coaching at high-school, junior, and national team levels. As an athlete, Mayabb competed at the University of Central Missouri, was a four-time U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier, and later served as a collegiate wrestling official at the conference and NCAA level.
At Iowa, his coaching style emphasizes culture-building, data-driven development, and a people-first mindset—complementing Head Coach Clarissa Chun’s vision to grow the women’s wrestling program into a national force.
Mark Ironside
RTC Coach
Mark Ironside is one of the most accomplished wrestlers in University of Iowa history and a respected leader in the sport. Competing for the Hawkeyes from 1995 to 1998 under legendary coach Dan Gable, Ironside became a two-time NCAA Division I National Champion at 134 pounds and a three-time NCAA finalist. Known for his relentless pace, toughness, and mental grit, he compiled an outstanding collegiate record and played a key role in Iowa’s continued dominance on the national stage.
Beyond his competitive success, Ironside has been dedicated to coaching and developing the next generation of wrestlers. He has instructed wrestling development at numerous camps and clinics across the country. His passion for the sport and commitment to athlete development have made him a trusted mentor both on and off the mat.
As a coach for the Iowa Women’s Wrestling Club, Ironside brings elite-level experience, technical expertise, and a championship mindset. His leadership continues to inspire athletes to push their limits and pursue excellence in all aspects of their wrestling career.
JAN ROSENBERG
RTC Coach
Jan Rosenberg brings an impressive background to his role as the RTC coach for the Iowa Women’s Wrestling Club. A two-time New Jersey state place winner in high school (third place in 2011 and 2012), Rosenberg went on to become a two-time NCAA qualifier for Coe College and an NCAA All-American in 2016, finishing eighth at 125 pounds. He placed at Fargo four times—twice in freestyle and twice in Greco Roman. He coached at Cornell College in 2018 and at Coe College from 2019 to 2023.
Alongside his competitive achievements, Rosenberg serves as a flight nurse for the University of Iowa Health Care air care team, blending his athletic insights with care for athlete welfare.
As a coach, Rosenberg is known for his dedication to blending technical excellence and athlete development in both the mind and body—helping young women wrestlers advance not just on the mat but as resilient, empowered leaders. His role with the IWWC strengthens the organization’s mission of building world- and Olympic-level athletes.
