The Iowa Women’s Wrestling Club (IWWC) will host a free girls wrestling clinic for athletes in grades 7-12 on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 12-2 p.m. at Valley High School. This will be the first free clinic hosted by the IWWC with future events planned for around the rest of the state.
The clinic will provide Iowa’s young women wrestlers with an opportunity to learn from athletes with extensive national and international experience while introducing participants and the broader wrestling community to the mission of the Iowa Women’s Wrestling Club.
Leading the camp’s instruction will be IWWC full-time resident athletes Macey Kilty and Gracie Figueroa, RTC coach Jan Rosenberg, and University of Iowa wrestlers Lilly Luft, Naomi Simon, and Emily Frost. The camp will be hosted by Iowa wrestling alum Ella Schmit, who recently launched the Dowling Catholic Girls Wrestling Academy and Valley’s girls wrestling program.
“This camp is an opportunity for us to open our doors to the Iowa wrestling community and show young women what the Iowa Women’s Wrestling Club is all about,” said IWWC President Tricia Brown. “We want these athletes to see what’s possible for them in wrestling and give them the opportunity to learn from women who have competed at the highest levels of the sport.”
Kilty and Figueroa bring extensive experience on the international stage, while Luft and Simon are current members of the University of Iowa women’s wrestling program and have competed for Team USA at the U20 level. Schmit, a former Hawkeye, brings her own experience competing at Iowa and now serves as a leader in the development of girls wrestling through the Dowling Catholic Girls Wrestling Academy.
“Women’s wrestling has given me so many opportunities, and I’m excited to be part of an event that gives back to the next generation of wrestlers,” said Schmit. “I wanted to be involved because I know how valuable it can be for young athletes to have the opportunity to learn from women who have competed at the highest levels of the sport. I hope the girls leave this clinic with new skills, more confidence, and an understanding of how far wrestling can take them.”
The free camp is open to all girls entering grades 7-12. Admission is free for athletes who register in advance. Registration will be limited to the first 100 wrestlers so spots may fill up quickly. A free t-shirt will also be provided to wrestlers who attend the event.
The IWWC’s mission extends beyond supporting elite athletes. The organization is committed to growing women’s wrestling in Iowa and across the country while creating pathways for young wrestlers to pursue collegiate, national, international, and Olympic success.
By bringing together current and former Hawkeyes, IWWC resident athletes, and young wrestlers from throughout Iowa, the camp will provide participants with an opportunity to learn, connect, and see firsthand the opportunities available through women’s wrestling.

About the Iowa Women’s Wrestling Club
The Iowa Women’s Wrestling Club provides the coaching, training facilities, and financial support necessary for female athletes to compete for and win Olympic and world championships after completing their collegiate careers.
Many current student-athletes are driven to win NCAA titles, but also to represent Team USA at the top of the podium on an international stage.
IWWC provides these women the opportunity to focus on their training and travel to national and international competitions. In the process, they learn more about themselves and become prepared for a future after competition.
