IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa Women’s Wrestling Club (IWWC) is proud to announce the re-signing of Gracie Figueroa as she continues her pursuit of World and Olympic success.
After originally joining the IWWC in August 2025, Figueroa has established herself as a key member of the club’s resident athlete program while working toward a return to competition following knee surgery.
One of the most accomplished age-group wrestlers in U.S. history, Figueroa brings an impressive résumé to the IWWC. The Selma, California, native is a four-time undefeated California state champion, five-time Fargo National Champion, five-time U.S. World Team member, Cadet World bronze medalist, and collegiate national champion.
After stepping away from competition for three years to begin her coaching career, Figueroa rediscovered her passion for competing while coaching at freestyle nationals in 2025. That decision ultimately led her to Iowa City, where she joined the IWWC and committed to chasing her long-term international wrestling goals.
Although an injury at the 2025 U.S. Open temporarily delayed her return to competition, Figueroa underwent successful knee surgery and has steadily progressed through rehabilitation while training alongside some of the nation’s top athletes.
“Gracie’s determination throughout her recovery has been exceptional,” said IWWC President Josh Schamberger, “She has remained fully committed to her development, and we’re excited to continue supporting her as she works toward making U.S. World and Olympic Teams.
“We’re re-signing an athlete who hasn’t competed in over a year because we believe her best wrestling is still ahead of her.”
Since arriving in Iowa City, Figueroa has embraced the club’s training environment and culture while continuing to build toward a return to elite-level competition.
“The support I’ve received from the Iowa Women’s Wrestling Club has been incredible,” said Figueroa. “Having a team that believes in me and invests in my goals has made a huge difference during my recovery. I’m excited for what’s ahead and grateful for the opportunity to continue representing the club.”
With her return to competition on the horizon, Figueroa remains focused on establishing herself among the nation’s top senior-level wrestlers and earning opportunities on the international stage.
The Iowa Women’s Wrestling Club is committed to supporting America’s best female wrestlers as they pursue World and Olympic medals while inspiring the next generation of athletes.
About the Iowa Women’s Wrestling Club
The Iowa Women’s Wrestling Club provides the coaching, training facilities, and financial support necessary for female athletes to compete for and win Olympic and world championships after completing their collegiate careers.
Many current student-athletes are driven to win NCAA titles, but also to represent Team USA at the top of the podium on an international stage.
IWWC provides these women the opportunity to focus on their training and travel to national and international competitions. In the process, they learn more about themselves and become prepared for a future after competition.
